Strumica is the largest city on the eastern side of the Republic of Macedonia.
It is located near the Novo Selo-Petrich border with Bulgaria.

It is populated with about 100,000 people of which 91.9% is Macedonian, 6.8% is Turks and the rest 1.3% are other populations.
It is named after the Strumica River which runs through it.

The town is first mentioned in the 2nd century BC with the Hellenic name Αστραίον (Astraîon, Hellenic for "starry") by Ptolemy and Pliny. It was later known as Tiveriopolis. It received its present name from the Slavic settlers of the Middle Ages.
In Strumica there are many places to visit like Strumica Town Hall, The Strumica Amphitheatre or The Strumica Lake. Quite amusing things to see in Strumica are mainly located in The Goce Delchev Square like The World Map Fountan or the monument "Macedonia" dedicated to the second president of Macedonia, Boris Trajkovski.

There are many things you can do in Strumica like Skuba diving, Sailing, Kayaking and Canoeing on The Strumica Lake, mountain biking, paragliding, ski and snowboarding on Belasica mountain. One of the events that Strumica is best known for are the Strumica Carnevals that take place a day before Forgiveness at Saturday night. The Strumica Carnevals are much like the Rio de Janeiro Carnevals only it takes place in Strumica and are smaller than those in Rio.
